Kind of interesting about Wilson ... he wrote a book that several professors thought was substantial enough for a doctoral thesis. Given that, they encouraged him to enroll in a doctoral program and take his PhD (the cardinal, and generally most challenging, step already behind him). He chafed at the idea of examinations and the like and wouldn't do it. Finally, the Johns Hopkins faculty pretty much waived the non-thesis requirements and he breezed through, spending most of his time there simply editing and polishing the work he'd already done.

He was a total dick, though, and some of his dick-ness (not really the race part, bad as it was) echoes in our body politic to this day.

I'd guess the vast majority of presidents were total dicks a fair percentage of the time. You'd almost have to be, to even want the job in the first place.

I'm just saying that, ideologically, there's a line that runs from Woodrow Wilson to Donald Trump and it has nothing to do with abhorrent views on race.

No one would seriously claim Trump is the first megalomaniac to run for president. Or the first racist.

He's just the douchiest, and most dangerously ignorant and petulant. And seemingly the only one who puts all those things together so effortlessly.

Wow. I can't believe he said this.

    He's really gone too far.

"There's something happening. They're not reporting it. Katy -- you're not reporting it, Katy," Trump said. "But there's something happening, Katy. There's something happening, Katy."

That's certainly his "gift," isn't it? Does that make him a three-tool player?

    SJ.com conventional wisdom:

Attacking FBI Director: totally justified, and smart politics.

Criticizing Katy Tur's campaign coverage: outrageous, and life threatening.
