So, because of the Trump win, the Mexico peso is tanking. Which makes it even cheaper to manufacture stuff in Mexico now.

Irony. It's the one thing that always outperforms the polls.

The Wall, mass deportation, greater immigration enforcement, improving infrastructure, more paid child care and maternity leave (courtesy of Ivanka's RNC speech), increased military spending, replacing Obamacare - all while cutting taxes.

    Very fiscally responsible.

For Democrats, this could turn into an opportunity to rebuild from the last ten years.

They were laser focused on Iraq and hating GWB in 2006. That worked to get them Congress and then Obama. The plan was working perfectly.

Once they jammed ACA through in the middle of the night while they still had 60 Senators, the Democrats then turned back into the party that catered to every special interest voting bloc -- just as they did from about 1972 to 1988.

    Result:
    Lost the House in 2010.
    Won in 2012.
    Lost Senate in 2014.
    Lost White House in 2016.

Perhaps this will bring the rock bottom for them to learn they can't be everything to everybody who isn't an affluent white guy. Have some general themes -- economic opportunity, fair play, citizenship. Stay away from the Sandra Fluke dog whistles. Stay away from identity politics that are wedge issues.

I'm one of those. I still have to wonder if the construction of the office will frustrate him, having to deal with Congress, even a sympathetic one, vs. being able to do whatever he pleases. Checks and balances are in for one heck of a test.

The Democratic party perfected identity politics. Identity politics has created deep divisions in this country.

And now, the sword, forged by the Democrats, has been used against the Democrats, and cost them an election.

So, should we all work together to put an end to identity politics? Should we stop slicing and dicing Americans into groups, and try to play them against each other, for political theater, that only benefits the political class, or should we double down on them?

If the Dems decide that they lost only because of racists, sexists, and deplorables, they will have learned nothing, and will run off voters in Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin for a generation.

And, if Trump does well, maybe minority voters will realize that they've been used by Democrats for decades.

He'd be easy to manage. Make every bill about him. To restate that old bromide, there's no end to what you can accomplish so long as Trump gets the credit.

I'll admit that my 7-year-old was bawling his eyes out. He was so into her. He even made a sign last night and was filling in states as they went red and blue. He'll bounce back, but I am proud of him for caring.

Sheesh, my whole family is in a state. Having to talk Elder DaughterQuant down from the ledge -- my most recent text was "Eat a good breakfast, hold your head up high, and do your thing. You got this." -- and MommaQuant's looking at me about half cross-eyed. I swear, honey, I didn't do nothin'!

To be clear, my daughter said something about Canada. I told her that wasn't happening. We adjust to our new situation and move on. She has already been through that lesson this year and in a situation that hit us on a far more personal level.

If Trump stumbles, I wouldn't be surprised if Ted Cruz primaries him in 2020, running as a "true conservative." I know Cruz is itching for a rematch.
