I disagree. This is a sane sanctuary compared with the rest of the Internet. Mrs. Whitman and I both just deleted our Facebook apps for at least the weekend.

I've actually been quite impressed with this thread.
People are coming on here...voicing their opinions in a sane and rational manner......and there hasn't been the outright name calling that has been the hallmark of some of the other threads.

California and New York, both places where turnout was lackluster this year. IMO, people who live in permanent minority status, as Republicans do here, are habitual voters like yourself. They want to take their stand. It's one, but of course not the only, reason Mass. is a very high turnout state relative to the others. BTW, as of this morning, over 4 million votes yet to be counted in California.
PS: Agree with the above posts. People here at least try to be rational. I may not always succeed, but I try.

I've been de-friended by several people on Facebook in the past couple of days and I've made a grand total of ZERO political posts. It's a bummer because some of the people who de-friended me likely have made some ... interesting ... posts since Wednesday.

That's crazy. You voted for Hillary, made zero political posts, and they still deleted you??

This is Not a Day Care. It’s a University!

This past week, I actually had a student come forward after a university chapel service and complain because he felt “victimized” by a sermon on the topic of 1 Corinthians 13. It appears this young scholar felt offended because a homily on love made him feel bad for not showing love. In his mind, the speaker was wrong for making him, and his peers, feel uncomfortable.

I’m not making this up. Our culture has actually taught our kids to be this self-absorbed and narcissistic. Any time their feelings are hurt, they are the victims. Anyone who dares challenge them and, thus, makes them “feel bad” about themselves, is a “hater,” a “bigot,” an “oppressor,” and a “victimizer.”

I have a message for this young man and all others who care to listen. That feeling of discomfort you have after listening to a sermon is called a conscience. An altar call is supposed to make you feel bad. It is supposed to make you feel guilty. The goal of many a good sermon is to get you to confess your sins—not coddle you in your selfishness. The primary objective of the Church and the Christian faith is your confession, not your self-actualization.

    So here’s my advice:

If you want the chaplain to tell you you’re a victim rather than tell you that you need virtue, this may not be the university you’re looking for. If you want to complain about a sermon that makes you feel less than loving for not showing love, this might be the wrong place.

If you’re more interested in playing the “hater” card than you are in confessing your own hate; if you want to arrogantly lecture, rather than humbly learn; if you don’t want to feel guilt in your soul when you are guilty of sin; if you want to be enabled rather than confronted, there are many universities across the land (in Missouri and elsewhere) that will give you exactly what you want, but Oklahoma Wesleyan isn’t one of them.

At OKWU, we teach you to be selfless rather than self-centered. We are more interested in you practicing personal forgiveness than political revenge. We want you to model interpersonal reconciliation rather than foment personal conflict. We believe the content of your character is more important than the color of your skin. We don’t believe that you have been victimized every time you feel guilty and we don’t issue “trigger warnings” before altar calls.

Oklahoma Wesleyan is not a “safe place”, but rather, a place to learn: to learn that life isn’t about you, but about others; that the bad feeling you have while listening to a sermon is called guilt; that the way to address it is to repent of everything that’s wrong with you rather than blame others for everything that’s wrong with them. This is a place where you will quickly learn that you need to grow up.

This is not a day care. This is a university.

To be fair, they probably didn't know I was voting for Herself. I was probably just one of many likely deplorables they de-friended.

Went through the Newseum's front pages, and liked this one from Texas the most:

    Nice wordplay.

My second favorite was from Austria, with a headline of "Good morning, America! How are you?"

    Great song. Well played, Austria.

The article wrapped around that link is whining more than any Oklahoma Wesleyan student ever whined, guaranteed.

From a friend's Facebook post. This doesn't include the many local examples I have seen posted, including an Asian man being harassed at a gas station and told Trump is going to kick him out of the country. He said it's the fifth such incident in the past 3 days. And that post came from someone whose spouse works for our conservative Republican governor.

Last 24 hours: • Leigh Valley PA: high school students yelling gay slurs and N-words in the halls, calling black students cotton pickers using heil hitler salutes
    • Tweet to Jewish writer: “Suck it you kike pussycat. He won. Fucking lying journalist piece of shit”
    • California: Noe Valley/Delores Heights home proudly flies the Nazi flag
    • Brooklyn: Man passes a woman Muslim wearing scarf, says “Your time is up sweetie”.
    • Plano East High School: group of boys rip off a girl’s hijab
    • Shasta High School Redding CA : White students hand out “deportation letters” to Latino students
    • Wellsville NY : Baseball dugout spray painted “Make America White Again” with swastika
    • Southern Illinois University: Students put on blackface and grin in front of confederate flag to celebrate Trump victory
    • LA: People on street yell at Latina woman: “Go back where you came from”
    • Houston High School: Black student called “Nigger, you should be pickin’ cotton”
    • California Student: “Today, I was harassed by an older white man who presumed I was Mexican. "I can't wait until Trump asks us to rape your people and send you back over the biggest damn wall we're going to build. Go back to hell, wet back." After saying all of that, he threw the water in his cup in my face, gave me the middle finger, and ran off. It took every fiber of my being to hold my tongue and not chase him down. I'm in tears right now. I've never been terrified of being a woman and a minority until today.”
    • NYU Student Association Prayer room has “TRUMP” written in big letters on the door
    • NYC West Village: “Tonight we were at a bar… A man came up to our table behind my seated friend and proceeded to, without greeting or warning or any words at all, put his arms around her, hug her, and kiss her cheek. We all assumed it was an old friend, and she squirmed around to see who it was, and it was a complete stranger! I said, "Do you know him?" and she said "no! Not at all!!!" We all started telling him in no uncertain terms that he doesn't get to do that, just touch and kiss anyone whenever he feels like it, and he responded, "but Trump just won the Presidential Race."
    • Dewitt Michigan: Group of students form a “human wall” to taunt Hispanic students and block them from their lockers
    • Charlotte NC: Man finds flyer under his windshield that says “Deport all Niggers, Muslims, Faggots, Wetbacks, Maga!!”
    • Palm Springs CA DMV : Older white man gets pissed off that the line is too long and yells at the Hispanic woman in front of him: “I’m glad Trump was elected, He will put an end to this bullshit, and you need to get the hell out of here and go back to your country”
    • Rochester NY: Gay Pride flags on house set on fire
    • East Haddam CT: “TRUMP 2016” Spray painted over a poster of unity naming disabled, LGBT and People of Color
    • Cambridge MA: “Bearded white male yells at hispanic man “ Go back to your country. This is Trumpland. You ain’t getting your check no more”
    • Towson MD: Two black students taunted by white students and called “niggers”
    • Newtown High School PA: swastikas in the bathroom, hate messages towards LGBTQ students
    • Ventura CA: Latina woman dropping her child off at school has a bunch of fifth graders chanting “build a wall” For photo evidence, testimonies, links to articles and videos, follow Shaun King on twitter.
