Subway is the last place I'd go for a Reuben, with Arby's probably the next-to-last place. The Subway version doesn't look very appetizing even in the commercials, and I can only imagine what the reality is like.

There's a very good, reasonably priced German-American restaurant only about five minutes from where I live that makes an excellent Reuben, with a turkey version (which I usually opt for) available. No need to go to a chain.

You're all correct. The Reuben is the province of small independent restaurants, diners, coffee shops, delis, etc. I love them, but as I get older, they tend to give me serious heartburn, so it's a rare treat.

This thread should be deleted and Chef2 needs to be sent to the corner for a few weeks for even thinking a Subway Reuben would be acceptable to eat.

I knew when they pulled out the loaf of bread.......and it was nothing resembling rye......more like a loaf of shit.

Best rueben I ever had was at a place called The Belgian Village in Moline, Illinois. A little dive bar that had old-as-fuck guys in there drinking cans of Old Style at any time of the day. Homemade bread, and they also had turkey ruebens, and my favorite was a standard rueben on raisin bread instead of rye. So good.

    Those weren't raisins.

I'm not eating anything from Jared's Subway that shares a name with that soccer-loving South Carolinian.

Next you're going to tell me that Burger King pancakes aren't very good either.

Holy Shit, that is a sandwich.
    From the menu.........
    VandeRueben® on Rye
Ham, Corned Beef, Saurkraut, Swiss Cheese, and Rueben Sauce between Two HUGE Slices of Homemade Rye Bread. 2 meals in 1 delicious sandwich. (The VandeRueben® is the only sandwich sold on our signature extra large slices of bread)
