From what I have read Ike played piano on "Rocket 88".

It was a Beech Bonanza. A quality small plane, one which the pilot was totally unqualified to operate, especially in bad weather.

Right. But the actual "name" of the plane was American Pie.

    Actually...
    American Pie

  6. Not a question, but something I learned...
Listening to Aerosmith's "Dream On" it dawned on me the guy singing sounded NOTHING like Steven Tyler excepting the screaming/ screeching part of the song.
I had to look up who sang it (thinking maybe Tyler did back up and someone like Perry did lead vocals on the song).
No, it was Tyler. But again, he sounds nothing like the version you hear on every other Aerosmith song.
Turns out Dream On is the only song Tyler did in his real singing voice.

I had Sabres' season tickets in 1971-72. I think we heard some version of "American Pie" on the radio while driving in from the burbs every single night. It's the soundtrack of my senior year in high school.

"AP" starts out in mono and then fades into stereo. Pretty neat trick.

Sir, after further review, I think you're right.

The recent Sam Phillips bio had a big section on the recording of "Rocket 88".

I'm deep into my cups and I have no idea what this means.

Years ago I stumbled upon the 45 in a record store. The intro and first two verses are on one side, the third and fourth verse and ending on the other.

Outstanding use of typos on this post. Strategically placed for maximum effect!
