The first half of Hacksaw Ridge was utter crap. Just a bucket full of cliches and obvious foretelling.

I could not agree more, on all counts.

I haven't seen it yet, but my brother-in-law raved about it. It scored 94 percent among critics on Rotten Tomatoes, FWIW.

"Free State of Jones." Had seen the previews and it looked fantastic.

It was awful. What was probably a good story ruined by terrible storytelling and on-screen Cliff's notes and historical photos. Over two hours and they couldn't even tell a story without the help of cheat sheets.

I hate modern comedies, but I laughed my ass off at this. It's the traditional Shane Black buddy cop movie (not as much Christmas for a Shane Black film) but more ridiculous. I loved it.

I hadn't read any reviews before seeing it, which is unusual for me.
I'm not gonna spoil anything. I was really into, and then there were elements of the resolution that just didn't work for me. Seemed dumb and ham-fisted, much like 'Interstellar.'
And that's really the only similarity between the two movies: They were both very good for about 66.6% of their run time.

I question every critical darling. Not that they all suck, but there are some that get through because the premise or 'meaning' of the film somehow suckers the critics. Exhibit A: American Beauty

Wife picked "Captain Fantastic" this weekend, Viggo Mortenson as a back to nature father with 6 kids who lose their mother to a manic-depressive induced suicide. Highlights the issues for the next generation between being mainstream and what is, in some views, important. I enjoyed it.

Looks better than the Jackson "Kong,' which was really bad.
