We liberals do? We're not the ones who have used family values as a policy mantra. Republicans have, numerous times. Look it up.

Not to make anyone puke any more than they already have, but with all the talk of his Cabinet and advisers, and first 100 days, etc., has anyone brought up the subject that at some point in late January or early February, President Trump will deliver a speech to a joint session of the Congress (typically not considered an official State Of The Union address anymore...)

Just a mental image to brace yourself for. Once you've gotten over the indigestion of the Inauguration itself.

That is usually one of the most heavily vetted and then dissected speeches in the world. Every line seems to carry volumes of history and subtext.

Trump's going to get up there, do his thing and then realize he has to ad-lib for 30 more minutes.

I'm trying to embrace the dark comedy of it all. I really am. And I won't root for him to fail, like so many did eight years ago.

But I just can't see watching the Inauguration or any of his speeches. Just can't do it.

    Deflect, distract, rinse, repeat ...

Trump’s decision to lash out, even as his transition team reels from chaotic infighting, was widely ridiculed. But some White House veterans said it was a deliberate attempt to distract Americans from corporate misdeeds that are unprecedented for an incoming president.

“The controversies will divert you from the scandals,” warned David Frum, a former speechwriter to president George W Bush.

Trump's Hamilton baiting distracts from transition 'scandals', experts say

If it was intentional, it worked. Trump's reaction to Hamilton sure seems to have drawn attention away from the Trump University settlement.

    Ah, the SOTU pantheon...

"The fiery trial through which we pass will light us down in honor or dishonor to the latest generation. … In giving freedom to the slave we assure freedom to the free—honorable alike in what we give and what we preserve. We shall nobly save or meanly lose the last best hope of earth." — Lincoln state of the union, 1862

“In the future days, which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms. The first is freedom of speech and expression—everywhere in the world. The second is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way—everywhere in the world. The third is freedom from want—which, translated into world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants-everywhere in the world. The fourth is freedom from fear—which, translated into world terms, means a world-wide reduction of armaments to such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbor—anywhere in the world.” — FDR, 1941

"We are not lulled by the momentary calm of the sea or the somewhat clearer skies above. We know the turbulence that lies below, and the storms that are beyond the horizon this year. But now the winds of change appear to be blowing more strongly than ever, in the world of communism as well as our own. For 175 years we have sailed with those winds at our back, and with the tides of human freedom in our favor. We steer our ship with hope, as Thomas Jefferson said, "leaving Fear astern." — JFK, 1963

“…We should all want a smarter, more effective government. And while we may not be able to bridge our biggest philosophical differences this year, we can make real progress. With or without this Congress, I will keep taking actions that help the economy grow. But I can do a whole lot more with your help. Because when we act together, there is nothing the United States of America can’t achieve.” — Obama, 2012

"I think we can do tremendous things, really great, believe me. We'll do them, bigly. Really great things. Very smart. We're going to win. It'll be great. Really great." — Fucko, 2017

Best part will be the redecoration of the House for his speech. He has such great taste in furniture and fixtures!

What's the surprise? Dumpf walks off with a slap on the wrist. He won't pay a nickel -- it all comes out of tax money now. Dumpf is home free -- he gets away with everything from now on.
