I don't know if this election represents a true realigning tsunami in American politics. The Democrat has won the popular vote in six of the last seven elections. (Abolish the Electoral College, Republicans? Yes please.)

Bottom line, Hillary was a capable candidate who campaigned horribly. Her campaign made assumptions that failed miserably. But things are in place that make 2020 attainable.

And lest we forget, Trump is not a true conservative.

Trump is turning down intelligence briefings. That doesn't bode well. Bloomberg columnist and poli sci prof Jonathan Bernstein points out that Trump's insistence on involvement in his businesses as President gives Congress a credible threat of impeachment at any time, so on those occasions Trump may want to veer from far right Republican orthodoxy, and those will come up, Ryan and McConnell have a club to hold over him.
