Putting Heitkamp at Agriculture would be a brilliant move.

Bipartisan move. Pick up a Senate seat. Piss of Democrats.

The precedent is a bit worrisome. Is Trump gonna helicopter in every time a company threatens to move? Is that really his job?

I'm no fan of Trump, and I am a fan of Obama, but there is apparently a lot of "downtime" to this job (hundreds of rounds of golf, picking the bracket for the women's NCAA pool, and filming a show for it).

If the president helicopters in to try to save jobs instead of picking the 63 winners in the women's bracket, I am all for it.

    Why hasn't he been arrested?

That dentist has been removed from patient care and is now working in an administrative role.

Does anyone think the specifics of this deal are any worse than the average deal?

So Carrier makes heating and air conditioning systems, I just bought a new ac/ heat pump for my house. With a good deal, and rebates it cost close to $8,000.00. I'm not good if that had to cost $10,000.00. I am better if the parts were made in Mexico and the cost remains the same, and Carrier sees increased profits rather than pass on labor savings to the consumer.
So under Trumps plan, the government (and by government he really means taxpayers) subsidizes businesses labor costs. My taxes go up to pay for that or increases deficit spending and interest rates go up, probably both. Part of Trumps plan would be less union workers which means that workers would see less benefits. The first to go is health care. SO employers would stop partially funding health care for manufacturing jobs. Unions or not Health benefits would get reduced anyway. Obamacare is gone, Medicaid is privatized and restricted. There are no more pensions and deferred comp is only good if you can live off reduced earnings.

Or Trump puts a 35% tariff on imports, which companies pass directly to consumers. COnsumer goods, such as electronics, ovens, dishawashers, washers, dryers, computers, ... go up. Raw materials used in construction are subject to this the the cost of building homes and businesses goes up. Or we go back to government subsidies of business. THats not a free market. Businesses don't want free markets. Businesses want monopolies. DIffciult entry into existing markets and low business taxes.
The only ones who end up benefiting under Trump are those who get unearned income, such as capital gains, pass through profits, dividends and executive bonuses. Not his voters

If that was the deal, why didn't Governor Pense of Indiana make that deal earlier?

Because he couldn't provide billions in side defense contracts. For that money, the entire move should be scrapped and all 2000 jobs should be saved, with pay raises

Natural-born enemies when you think about it. Old man Kellogg invented Corn Flakes believing it would reduce sex drives and the urge to masturbate.

Maybe because Carrier wasn't willing to make it, until the political pressure from PEOTUS Trump made them realize it was a smart move.

Obama makes the same deal I'm sure your thoughts would be the same.
