Trust me, any vigil for a cop killed in the line of duty was 1A above the fold. There is no objective metric in the world that could accuse that paper of being liberal. The entertainment reporter did more stories about Christian bands playing in a city 200 miles away than he did about acts like Vanilla Ice playing the casino 10 miles away.

In sports, we'd run dozens and dozens of profiles of high school athletes and coaches. Glowing features (which were embarrassingly formulaic and cliché) that made every kid into the next All-American - on field and off it - and every coach into a cross between Knute Rockne and Billy Graham. But after years of that, when we started doing stories about concussions on the local level it was because we were liberals who hated football.

I heard if you post that on social media, you get a free "Coexist" bumper sticker.

It would be a year-long vigil (or vigal).

No they don't. They do a shit ton of meth, beat up their women folk and wrap their friends Dodger Charger around a telephone pole 1 block from their trailer.

Thought maybe since a "bigal" has sex with two genders, perhaps a "vigal" has sex with six genders. Or something like that.

I live in a rural area in the Midwest. Most of my friends are conservatives, and so my Facebook feed has a conservative bent. I'm inundated with obviously fake stories, emanating from sites like this. As evidenced by the People Magazine Trump quote that won't die, this isn't exclusive to conservatives. But I think it's a mistake to dismiss these stories as fringe lunacy. It's not the traffic to the sites that's the problem, but the traction their stories find on social media. I understand my specific example is anecdotal, but when I do challenge these stories (I try not to go down the FB rabbit hole too often) I'm floored by the number of people who rationalize the fallacies as a necessary overcorrection of the liberal media.

We need to fix the Internet.

Ever notice that every time Trump drops an outrageous tweet, he follows it up with a controversial nomination?

CNN spends all day chasing the tweet and doesn't even mention a guy like Oklahoma AG Scott Pruitt, who essentially wants to abolish the EPA.

    Works every time.
