If you thought 3-D printing was just for fun—for making, say, a Batsuit—this video shows how researchers at Harvard’s Wyss institute have figured out a way to use it for something truly amazing: building human body parts out of living human cells. They’re bio-printing functioning kidney proximal tubules for eventual implantation in patients with kidney disease.

That is the kind of thing that was speculated could be done when the 3D printer was invented.
Amazing, 30 years from concept to reality.

 

A subsurface ocean on Pluto?

If we can get an EmDrive made of graphenes on a 3D printer and go to Pluto, we'll have achieved scientific apotheosis.

 

Don't be fooled by the headline -- the part that works (so far) is the magnetic "cage" designed to hold the ridiculously hot hydrogen plasma needed to fuel nuclear fusion. It's a long way from fusion energy, but it's a big step in the right direction.

It's all good until Mr. Fusion gets rear ended. Cleaning up a car accident of that stuff would be a crispy mess.

 

More on the EmDrive. The Chinese say they've tested it in space and it works -- and they have plans to implement it in satellites ‘as quickly as possible.’

Despite, my inherent skepticism of Chinese self-reporting of results, I hope it's true.
I dig the EmDrive.
