How far back do we go in the "Both sides do it!" apologia parade? Is there an expiration date after which bad behavior by Rs can't be excused by pointing at the misdeeds of Ds?

Because I think reaching back 30-plus years is an awfully big stretch in an attempt to downplay the seriousness of what might have happened in 2016.

Easily Googleable (but take it with a grain of salt or so until more verification is available) ...

The garden variety deplorables in this region think Democrats are the "real racists" because that was the party label their equally-racist forebears voted under more than a half-century ago. They gaslighted the existence of the Southern Strategy well before Trump made it off the bench of B-level Howard Stern guest.

The way the Southern Strategy and, especially, Lee Atwater has been written out of the political history by some is pretty amazing.

Ask a so-called progressive about Richard Ely or Margaret Sanger and you'll also be amazed.

Former Rep. Joe Walsh, now a radio host best known for his fiery commentary that long foreshadowed the rise of Trumpism (he was once suspended for dropping the n-word on-air), excoriated on Monday the president-elect for his handling of reports that U.S. intelligence officials believe the pre-election hack attacks on the Clinton campaign and the DNC were a Russian government attempt to sway the outcome.

“There's evidence Russia messed around with our election, but cuz our guy won, people on my side are ok with that? That's so fucking wrong,” Walsh tweeted on Saturday. “What's ridiculous is you believing Russia over our own intelligence agencies,” he later tweeted at the president-elect, in response to his dismissal of the CIA reports. ...

“For Donald Trump to come out and attack our men and women in the CIA,” Walsh said to host Brooke Baldwin, “that’s almost treasonous.”

He further fumed: “I’m outraged at the lack of outrage, especially on my side. I get that the country's divided, but my God, a foreign government interfered with our election. That should piss everybody off!”

I'm not so much "downplaying the seriousness" as much as pointing out that had the tables been turned --- with Russia in some way helping to get Clinton elected to avoid having this loose cannon Trump so close to the nukes --- that it would not be so serious with you guys AT ALL.

It's serious to you . . . because it went against what you wanted to happen. That's the only reason it's serious. And THAT is what's disturbing.

Nope. It's serious because Russia is succeeding at tech war against us. And people don't care. That's the real screamer.
