Funny that Lawrence Lessig is reduced to "some Harvard prof".

But, BTE is correct, unless Trump electors flip to Hillary -- and this doesn't appear likely -- and she gets to 270, the election goes to the House, where Trump is elected President. It's almost enough for me to hope it happens, just so the dead ender libs get kicked in the teeth one more time.

(And, yes, @RickStain had to point out the same to me, when in a burst of exuberance, I forgot that 270 is the magic number.)

Russia was involved in attempting to influence the U.S. election. I have no problem with believing that an operation at that level would have to be approved by Putin first.

What would be funny is if Russia helped get Putin-elect Trump almost to the White House, but then we find out Mexico has blackmailed enough Electoral College voters to swing them to Hillary.

Mexico would be like, "Hey, Russia won the popular vote. We could have done that, too, but we went after the Electoral College!"

How the hell can Trump Make America Great Again when he can't even Make Trump Grill Mediocre Again?

I think it's appropriate to get riled up about a foreign enemy working to influence and undermine our election.

(And watch where you're pointing your "bursts of exuberance.")

The Hamilton ideal lasted for two elections when there was one person who won without opposition. #HamiltonElectors didn't even exist by 1796.

The small upside for Russia is that it would play into Putin's assertion all along --- that our elections are as fucked up as everyone else's and we have no place lecturing anyone else on the process.

Who actually sits in the Oval Office has always been of secondary concern ---- Russia believes chances at better relations are slim and none, with Trump being "slim" and Clinton being "none.'' Putin's main aim all along was simply for Americans to have doubt about their elections. And regardless of how much--- if any --- he was involved . . . his wish came true.

In 2 of the past 5 elections, the candidate with the most votes lost. We would call such results "illegitimate" in any other country (but only if the person we supported was the loser, of course).

Yes. Very elegant writer. I feel like I've already benefitted so much from reading her.

The Atlantic continues to grow its masthead with the hire of U.S. politics and foreign policy reporter Julia Ioffe. Currently a contributing writer for Politico Magazine, Ioffe will cover national security, foreign policy, and politics for The Atlantic magazine and TheAtlantic.com. She will begin with The Atlantic in early 2017.

“Julia Ioffe is an indefatigable reporter, a gifted analyst, and an elegant writer and I’m so happy she’s decided to join The Atlantic,” said editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg. “The addition of Julia to our already growing politics and foreign affairs teams is a cause for celebration. Our readers will benefit greatly from her work."

There is an, uh, interesting tension between the strong anti-Iran views of Trump cabinet nominees and advisers such as Flynn and Mattis and the statements by Russia that the nuke deal is important to them.

I think it's silly to "get riled up" about a foreign country trying to influence/undermine our election, because I've always assumed that was going on. The thing that would get me riled up would be someone in our government behaving as if no such risks were present.
