Now I'm drinking a Sierra Nevada.

If AAFES (think partially DoD-run department store/services) does anything well, it's our liquor and beer stores. We have lots and lots of people who've spent considerable time around the globe and desire certain foods. Hell, many Soldiers still come back from overseas assignments with wives. They do a very good job of keeping us in good German beer, California and European wines, Asian foods, etc.

That's about the only good think about them.

Goose Island Matilda, decent pale ale. Guy at place I like to go to said if they sell more of this and Honkers Ale, Goose Island gives them more Bourbon County Stout.

Dogfish Head World Wide Stout. Wish they made it every year, 18% abv, remember when Canada and Germany scoffed at the USA with its watered down beer.

    Devils Backbone Kilt Flasher, 8%.
    Wee Heavy Scotch Ale

Weird experience: had three bottles Tues night and three last night. On Tues, I thought it was very drinkable, like an amber, didn't notice the higher alcohol content, and it didn't taste like a scotch ale. Last night, I got the opposite effect - couldn't drink it as fast, which allowed it to warm up, and the scotch ale taste/aroma was thus very much more noticeable.

A new brewery opened in town. Very good lineup so far. They just put on a great Double Oatmeal Stout called Big Oatis and then added a firkin of it with a blend of blueberries & raspberries, called Berry Big Oatis.

War Daddy, a collaboration between Rushing Duck Brewery and Barrier Brewing, and a very, very good double IPA. Should've bought 2 or 3 four-packs, but my buddy is giving me some Other Half for 4 of these.

Lickinghole Creek's Virginia Black Bear Vanilla Stout.

Excellent. As most Lickinghole beers are.

Guests coming soon. Have a bottle of Jameson's Craft Beer Barrel aged whiskey set to go. Nice Rioja to go with Moroccan chickpea stew for dinner (my son eats anything that won't bite back, but all of his serious girlfriends have been vegetarians) which is delicious and aromatic to boot.

Even better: The brewery is based in Goochland, Va.

Mosaic is, by far, my favorite hop.
