We have lived long enough to see a day when the GOP is the party of Communist sympathizers. They love Putin, a 15-year KGB veteran who whacks his opponents and who embraces fascism in general. And now they're freaking out about "faithless electors," whose votes can be nullified in some states if they go against the party's candidate. This is right out of the Soviet playbook. Sure, they had elections, but the masses could only vote for the Communist candidate.
Democrats would be agonizing if electors bound to Clinton were threatening the same thing, of course, but the GOP is in this position because their guy won under a bizarre system that was meant to protect slavery, the institution their sacred ancestors fought to protect and which they essentially defend when they defiantly and paradoxically fly the Confederate flag.

I have to now, since my COBRA ran out. I tried finding options off the exchange and there are basically none where I am. I will pay 50% more in premiums for a much worse product. And the doctor I have seen for 16 years isn't part of this network. I'm extremely happy.

If Clinton had won the EC and lost the popular vote, the House of Representatives would have impeached her on Inauguration Day.

So where do I fit in? I'm old, but I'm not poor, and I'm Terminator-like healthy. Good for me or bad?

I'm probably not on DQ's side of the fence regarding healthcare policy, but it doesn't take a genius to realize changing healthcare to "one size fits all" (OK, a few sizes with the "metallic" tiers) would cause plenty of problems for those who buy insurance on their own.

Look, if you basically got something you didn't previously have for something close to free, I'm sure you probably like it.

But for folks who had to buy it? Ask them.

Our plan wasn't offered again this year. The company we were with -- who were horrible -- pulled out of the exchange.

So, only three plans were offered this year on the exchange.

And, could we keep our (daughter's) doctor(s)? Nope. Not a single plan offered on the exchange contracted with Lurie Children's Hospital.

So what were our options? Could we take her to Rush or University of Chicago Children's Hospital? No. None of the plans contracted with those hospitals either.

Now, my daughter still can't swallow. She needs a surgeon and a speech and swallow therapist. She's behind developmentally because she spent 3 months in the NICU, hooked up to wires, and couldn't really do tummy time, so she needs physical therapy to catch up.

So we finally found an individual plan, off the exchange, that with a referral from her pediatrician will allow her to see her specialists.

Of course we had to find a new pediatrician.

And it's going to cost us more than most people pay for their mortgage every month.

Whatever. Our daughter's health is more important than anything else.

But Obamacare didn't improve the system or process for people who need to buy insurance on an individual/family basis.

The other thing is, that many people now have health insurance, but don't have better healthcare, because they basically can't afford to use their insurance.

Your daughter will have a preexisting condition her entire life. I think it's a good thing if she can get health coverage.
I'm OK if my (me, mine) premiums are a couple bucks more a month to make it happen. I'm OK if I pay a couple more bucks a month in taxes. I'm OK if we don't give J. Chauncey Gotrocks his billion dollar tax cut too. I'm OK if our military budget is only nine times as big as anybody else in the world, not ten.

Exactly. If the GOP has its way and is able to turn its fellatio of corporate America into policy, that pre existing condition exception will disappear.

Healthcare should not be tied to employment.

If it wasn't, 90% of the preexisting condition issue goes away, since people wouldn't need to purchase new insurance.
