Take out the word "white" and it's basically word for word what we've been assured all the Trump voters want.

I know ... that one was new to me. Then again, I am old ... I think it's one of those things that SJWs can say to prove their virtue. The wrong kind of white guy (i.e., a non-SJW) saying it is a grevious offense.

Oh it's definitely a joke ... whether it was deliberately a joke, however ...

I would agree. It's not that great, but what SHOULD have happened once it was law is to start fixing all the places that badly needed fixing. That never happened unless it was taking out something that could be demagogued. I'd add that like many on the Democratic end of things, I think that Obama is a horrible bargainer who gives up far too much as his initial position. Instead of starting out with a single payer system and horsetrading down, he said "Well, I'll never get that through, so I'll give it up before I start and save time and aggravating the Republicans." So he loses the negotiating points and gets nothing for it, because it really didn't matter where he started, they didn't want any of it anyhow.

I'm not so much glossing it over as starting once it was past the Supreme Court. Yes, that is both lazy and makes the argument easier. My argument wasn't with that process, it accepted it as done, and I didn't want to open a whole other can of worms. This subject is difficult enough without throwing that in. I'll stipulate that how it passed pissed off the Republicans if you'll stipulate that they were going to fight it tooth and nail anyhow.

OTOH, I'm very sick of what passing a bill has become. The Constitution was written with a majority voting to pass a bill, not having to have a veto proof majority to bring a bill to the floor and *then* you can vote on it. Senate filibuster rules intended to allow a small minority to raise a lot of very public hell about a bill at great effort have been morphed into a partisan power tool that is used any time a bill is in the least controversial. They now take a cloture vote routinely. I'd like to see the Senate forced to actually filibuster a bill, and after that has gone on for X hours, say eight, a cloture vote can be taken, or some other similar mechanism. I'm no expert on the Senate rules. I'd just like to see invoking this tool to have some actual cost in aggravation and time invested so that it wasn't used so lightly.

"Get woke" was big in the early Kaepernick talk. He was getting woke. Beats getting more accurate on your passes.
