Wonder if this will relax the newspapers/TV stations being owned by the same company rule too? Not 100% sure how I feel about that

What I'm asking is, how do you know there are only 35 employees left. Is that true? Only 35?

I read the article you originally linked. It stated that Raleigh had more than 300 employees and Durham 35. I don't have any information beyond that.

McClatchy, owner of The N&O, buying Durham Herald-Sun

I guess I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you said Durham once had 350 employees and is now less than 35. My bad.

Wow. That place has been gutted.

And the end product reflects that. Nowhere near the paper it once was. Among the many gaffes since Paxton took over - and moved design to Kentucky - have been headlines over Duke basketball stories identifying the team playing as UNC and vice-versa.

This is the rare sale where I think the paper and staff will be better off in the new owner's hands. Even if they closed the place, it would be a mercy killing.

Did the Durham paper ever get sued over any its coverage of the Duke lacrosse rape case?

Almost wonder if it would be worth combining these two papers together, adding some pages to reflect Durham news, and putting the product out as the Raleigh-Durham N&O.

Even if that doesn't happen, I agree with frantic... this paper is better off under McClatchy.

The downside for the sports side is Durham's Duke and UNC beat writers might be considered expendable. On the other hand, McClatchy has made some investments in sports beats people care about in other markets. In KC it added a second KU beat writer and launched a special KU hoops site and app.

Or they'll block it just to screw with "the media" on principle.

Nah. In Trumpworld, reporters bad, publishers good.
