I thought we did a thread on this a while back, but I couldn't find it.

    My Top 3 (in order)

Sopranos---Absolutely loved it. As me and mrschef were watching it, as soon as the ending happened....we both thought the tv/cable went out.
Cheers---You knew what was going to happen. You knew how it was going to happen. You could tell Burrows and Co. just threw away the script for the last show and said "You guys made this show.....have fun with it."
Newhart---The whole dream sequence put a great cap on a great show.

Seinfeld with all of them sitting in a prison cell was pretty good.

And we got a return of Versatile's avatar.

To cite some new ones -- Mary Tyler Moore, the Wire, and what was supposed to be the last episode of Homicide (the finale of the next-to-last season) before NBC offered them all a truckload of dough to return for the actual final one.

    The Shield. St. Elsewhere.

I know I'm in the minority, but I also loved The Wonder Years ending.

Took two tries, but under 1 minute:

Best and worst TV series finales

    Cheers, M*A*S*H
Also liked how the final season of Monk wrapped everything up, but was disappointed in the finale.

    Aha.
    Gracias.
    Liked MASH finale as well.

Haven't we already done this thread? Maybe more than once?

    Newhart is the clear winner.

The MASH finale isn't only the worst final episode I can think of, it might be the worst single episode of any TV show in history.

Breaking Bad -- Totally fan-servicey, but Jesse finally getting away and Nazi Todd getting his was totally satisfying.

I have mixed feelings on The Sopranos. While I thought the way it ended was a great idea, I don't know that it was fair to have many viewers thinking their cable went out.

Supposedly, Chase wanted to do it without even having ends credits, but the trade unions put the kibosh on that.

Mad Men would've been great if people hadn't already guessed the ending a year in advance. The internet now makes shocking endings seem inevitable.

  11. I don't know how the Sopranos can be considered among the best finales' ever. There's something wrong with you people.
The same with M.A.S.H. ... Da Man is right, probably the worst ever.

    I liked Cheers.

Seinfeld wasn't bad. Not great, but not bad.

I don't know if I could come up with any great finales.
    Terriers, I guess.
    Breaking Bad was good.
    Does the Firefly movie count?

The problem my most of the finales is thet seldom go out on top. MASH was the most watched in TV history for a long time, but the show was sappy crap for years. It had ceased being funny years ago and was now reduced to grabbing liberal heart-strings. I guess that's why I prefer limited series.

I dunno ... I expect closure in a finale, or the continuation of the characters without the viewers (life went on at Cheers and even Seinfeld) .. While I believe (SPOILER) .......

Tony does NOT die at the end, fading to black was fucking ridiculous. Why would you do that? It makes ZERO sense to end it that way.

Yeah, The Sopranos ending sucked ass.

    So did LOST.
