Count the big-time advertising spots going forward. There won't be many. If she does retire, and I'm guessing she will, the photo Chef posted and the memes are going to be a long-lasting image of her.

And I think the Danica mention was quite apt. A failed athlete can still generate buzz if they're media-friendly.

 

Perhaps, but Danica never had a moment like this in her pedestrian career. A moment where her "return" was highly anticipated and ended in less than a minute. I could be completely wrong, but I think this is going to hurt her image, which will hurt her bottom line. Yeah, she could go to the WWE and be a sideshow, but she'll never have the notoriety she did when this thread was started.

 

Mike Tyson still hasn't faded into obscurity, and he got way more high-profile ass-kickings than Rousey has.

I'm just remembering how overblown everything became when Patrick switched from IndyCar to NASCAR, increasing its marketing among women, adding new fans, etc., until one thing got in the way: She can't keep up on the track. Now we see the same with Rousey. In a past era, she'd be Anna Kournikouva, no?
