After the game, did Scarbrough say, "Believe it or not, I'm walking on air!"

If there wasn't a championship football team involved, you'd swear it was a religious cult. His players buy in totally. It's the closest thing to Belichick out there.

Do they? Or are they just scared of the consequences. I covered a Belichick coaching tree coach, and the players were miserable robots. Then I'd see them quoted in the NFL or working as studio hosts and it was like they were different people, with thoughts and personalities.

The college system gives Saban a lot more fear-inducing power than even Belichick has.

    Not thrown the pick-6.

The ones who last, and especially the ones who play significant minutes, by and large do.

I mean, it isn't complex paychology Saban preaches. Learn your assignment and play within yourself. Forget the last play and move onto the next one. Practice your job until you can do it without thinking. Don't cut corners and give consistent effort from start to finish. What makes him great is he actually has the self-discipline to do what he says. What makes him possibly the best ever is his ability to get a roster of 18-22 year olds that turns over regularly to do it his way, as well as a staff of top coaches that also experiences regular churn because they have talent as well and egos to match the players.

...wondering if "paychology" was a Freudian slip...

Belichick gives his players a lot of freedom outside talking about football. Otherwise, how would he have gotten Aaron Hernandez? I expect Saban is the same to a large extent. There's a big, big difference between media communication and in-group communication. Players may have more influence on their coach than we know, as long as they pretend they don't.

But did they do an SEC! chant?

Why would anyone except her colleagues care about this? And if they did, they would probably think it's a great thing. Whining about not getting a seat in a press conference takes media navel-gazing to a new, exciting level.
