So what interests me most today is an old thought I had which popped back up with the stories of Trump having that mob-connected guy at his New Year's Eve party. Namely the guy's nickname, "Joey No Socks." I've met a few guys who know guys in my travels, and none of 'em ever had a nickname beyond something off their first name like in hockey, Johnny, Mac, Vinnie, Patsy, etc. Who makes up this goddamn names anyway. Is there a secret panel of big city cops and police beat reporters from the Sun-Times, NY Post and Daily News who do it just to put a little sunshine into their working lives?

I know a Tommy No Shoulders and a Lips, both so named after their physical features - Tommy's shoulders are narrow as a flagpole, while Lips has the biggest set of smackers this side of the Kardashians. Both also have common first names, so the physical description sets them apart. That's all I got.

2017: The year the GOP flipped its opinion of Julian Assange and began trusting him more than the NSA, CIA and all the other US intel agencies.

Sure, I heard of those guys. But there are nicknames and there are nicknames. Little and Skinny are some distance from No Socks. Maybe it's a Boston thing. The nickname for the biggest gangster the town ever had was just Whitey. The biggest Italian gang boss there was ever was here, Vincent Patriarcha, was known as Vincent. Even our made men are snobby.
