Trump, Putin, and the Big Hack

"Strobe Talbott, who was Bill Clinton’s closest adviser on Russia, told me recently that the hack of the D.N.C. and Putin’s other moves in Europe—including the annexation of Crimea, the Russian military presence in eastern Ukraine, and the financial support of nationalists like Marine Le Pen, of France—were part of a larger strategy intended to weaken the E.U. and NATO.

“I try to be careful about superlatives,” Talbott said, “but I cannot think, going back to the Soviet Union or since, that there’s been a Moscow-Kremlin-instigated gambit that was so spectacularly successful as what they have done with our democracy. All of those assets that they tried to use on us over the years were far less by comparison; this was like winning seventeen jackpots all at once.”

Dumpf and the GOPbags aren't going to put up with any shit on these appointees.

Rather than slog their way through confirmation hearings with testimony and evidence and all that boring shit, they are just gonna pull the plug and ram through all the nominations on voice vote. No hearings no nothing. Wham bam.

Star, that's not going to happen. Things will be bad enough without wallowing in the joy of paranoia.

Was that you, or just your evil doppelgänger, I recall posting to the effect of "White people shouldn't have civil rights"?

Indeed. Especially for us columnists. I seriously do believe there's a fine chance of a real constitutional crisis in the Trump administration, but that'll take awhile to evolve. In the meantime, when one of those Cabinet officers rushed through by the Republicans gets caught in the deep shit (happens to every new administration, even squeaky clean Obama had Tom Daschle), McConnell will be caught in a backwash he could've easily avoided.

What "deep shit?" Shit is only "deep" if somebody with some power to do anything about it cares.

Nobody who cares has any power to do anything about it.

The constitutional crisis arrives the instant Fucko is sworn in, as he is in obvious and blatant violation of the Emoluments Clause. He's guilty of plenty of other shit too, but that's the most glaring red-siren example.

But nobody who cares has any power to do anything about it. And nobody will.

Not initially, no. You can bet that the Democrats will be keeping track and beating the drum about every scandal and misstep. I don't think the GOP will ram the appointments through by voice vote, but if they do, anyone with a skeleton that surfaces will hurt. That's going to be true even if they hold hearings but the cabinet member wasn't properly vetted. The hope is that over time there will be a large pile of screw-ups and scandals that pay off come the next election.

I can't help but think that there will be plenty of them.
