How many confirmation hearings are being held Thursday? Everybody who mocked Obama's lack of transparency better be doing the same for Trump.

Through the rules of the Senate, even without the filibuster the minority can hold up any single nomination for 30 working hours after cloture. If the Democrats dig in their heels, that's months to confirm the Cabinet. They won't, but they would if the Republicans tried that voice vote bullshit, which they won't.

Nah it's all good. They're businessmen so you can trust them.

The GOP can change the procedural rules if they want to, and they will. Entirely consistent with the ALEC game plan and track record in every state legislature. They seize the sledgehammer and use it, and nobody gets in their way.

They'll say, with perfectly straight faces, that it's against the national interest for the appointments of a president to be held up by investigations, hearings and debate, and it's in America's best interest that all the nominations are rammed through by voice vote in the course of a day or two.

It's not promote or endorse religion. It's "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."
It's not as simple as "religion can never be involved in government."

I thought the first thing the GOP was going to do when th new Congress went into session was to eliminate the filibuster. Some grade-school genius predicted that.

Those words are vague enough to cover a wide variety of interpretations. That's why we have case law and precedents.

Oh they're waiting until they are "forced" to do it by the "threat of Democrat obstruction."

It'll break their hearts to seize absolute power, but what else can they do?

I seem to recall someone around here frequently bitching about some "tyranny of the dead."

Actually writing our own rules > Living with the complex interpretations of vague rules written by dead people > Quoting the vague rules and implying they only have one interpretation
