Oh, I agree. We have to have some form of something like Medicaid. The question is how far down (for lack of a better word) into that mass of people should Medicaid extend. Further, how comprehensive should whatever we have be? Should whatever we have be it (ostensibly taking care of everything for those on it)? Or is there some other mix (charity, etc.) that might be better?

Further, Rags and I continually note that likely a goodly portion of the people in that chunk are there because of the government. The saints among us believe that's all the more reason for more government, and tell us that our skepticism regarding the wisdom of such is merely evidence of our greed and callousness.

    A) All the way to the bottom, where assistance is most needed.

    B) some median level

    C) "charity" isn't a policy; it's a hope that others will
    assume your responsibility.

Oops ... I should have worded it differently. I should have written something along the lines of "how far up from the bottom" or something to that effect.

Hmmmm ... other than the absence of violence (or its threat), that sounds a lot like progressivism.

Violence is a possibility when people are pushed too far. Rule it out at your own risk.

Hey, it's a common Republican mantra. We don't need no education.

All in all it's just another prick in the hall.

Where does the money come from in your "other way"? From private philanthropy? Hah. Every study known to man says the top 1 percent, those with the greatest capacity, give a lower portion of their money to charity than others. They could afford to part with far more than they do.
