Of course people would have bleated that he "lied." But @YankeeFan should aspire to a higher bar than that. And this goes deeper than this one example. He's said that people "lied" over the most innocuous memory lapses, and we've discussed it here before.

 

Should I instead assume that he forgot pulling the exact same act the last time a Republican was elected president?

You shouldn't assume anything. It's enough to point out that he pulled the exact same act the last time a Republican was elected president and let people draw their own conclusions. This is your version of writing that Trump "admitted" committing sexual assault.

It's generally a shrug in the 1,000 or so times I have noticed.

 

I have seen Republican friends who post now that it's "hilarious" when Trump states mistruths - he's clearly just fucking with "crybaby" liberals. Conservatives, on the other hand, realize that he's just joshing everyone.

Seriously. That's the talking point.

 

Not excusing John Lewis or anything, but people's memories suck.

That's why if you write a story about a team winning their "first-ever" state championship in any sport based on the AD telling you that, you'll find out pretty quick that the girls' basketball team won the state title two years ago.
