Obama struggled with that. He could campaign against what he framed as a third Bush term (fairly or not is for others to judge). Once he was the guy at the helm inexperience, arrogance and political naïveté really stalled him, even when he had Congress.

Trump has those exact same issues along with the baggage of being a grade-A asshole and an honest-to-God dolt.

She might actually be the worst of his appointments, and that is saying something. She said local and state governments should decide if armed civilians would be allowed in schools. She actually argued that in some places this might be necessary protection from Grizzly Bears. Seriously.

We're one step away from the Simpsons' bear tax being a real thing.

Parts of 2017 are scary. Some are so outlandish I'm enjoying them.

I like to think the person responsible for prepping DeVos for her testimony threw bear attack out there as a joke response for the line of questioning and she took it seriously. "The gun thing is a trap. You're going to have to walk a tightrope to keep everybody happy. Fuck, I don't know. Tell'em a bear might attack?"

Yeah. It's kind of cool to be in a dystopian future without the hassle of an asteroid strike, nuclear war, zombie outbreak or anything.

I'd say wife-beating Andy Puzder is the worst cabinet appointment, followed by Betsy DeVos, followed by Jeff Sessions. Let's face it: They all suck.

Honestly, reading the quotes in that article makes it sound like he really has never met Putin and wanted to sound like a big shot by lying and saying they had met and got along very well. But now, given his clear business ties to Russia and the dossier potentially exposing secret meetings between associates of the PEOTUS and Putin, he's having difficulty getting anyone to believe he never has met the man. Reap what you sow, boy who cried wolf.

But all of the other presidents' approval ratings went up, Republican or Democrat. Obama's was 79 percent. Trump's is plummeting.

There's way more to it than "the other person isn't around."

Not if the goal is to dismantle public education.

You know things are bad when Rick Perry gets a cabinet nomination and he's not the worst of the lot.

Even if that is the goal, and I don't doubt it, Trump should have been able to find somebody with that goal who is more qualified for the position.

It isn't just that her goals are dangerous. She exposed herself as lacking the knowledge necessary for the job.

What do you need to know to be an effective* SecEd?

*And you can't define effectiveness w.r.t. policy positions ...
