Anybody have any recommendations for an under-the-radar, but excellent film that I can stream on Netflix, Amazon or Vudu? I'm thinking of something like "Ex Machina," not in terms of content, but in the way that it was highly regarded critically, had an interesting story and showcased a couple of budding talents in Oscar Isaacson and Alicia Vikander.

Last night I spent 25 minutes searching for something that would be thought-provoking or thrilling or have an interesting twist before I settled on "London Has Fallen" and then shut it off after the opening attack.

Not sure if either of these are still on Netflix.

If you like Paul Greengrass' United 93, Bloody Sunday is good.

The lead in Bloody Sunday is in Five Minutes of Heaven with Liam Neeson.

Both movies are about The Troubles so if you are a Mick interested in that stuff, you might be more inclined to like them.

Have you seen Nightcrawler? Riz Ahmed is a budding star.

Riz Ahmed is freaking everywhere right now.
    He's become omnipresent.

I've seen (and enjoyed Nightcrawler), but not the other two. I'll have to check them out, thanks.

I disagree. I'm not sure how it duped you other than the fact the ending isn't a Sixth Sense ending. This was a more straight forward horror movie that leaves things open for a follow up movie.

This isn't a perfect movie and I had problems with Anya Taylor-Joy's acting and some of the situations Shamalan put the girls in. James McAvoy was terrific as was Betty Buckley as a psychiatrist. (This is kind of hard without being able to go into the ending). See a matinee showing so you don't have to pay full bill to see it, but it is worth watching.

Has anybody seen Split yet? I had no interest at all, even listening in on a spoiler-heavy discussion at work, but apparently it is doing well. Of course, because it is a Shyamalan movie, there is a twist, but I really like the idea.

See my post above. The acting is pretty good and the suspense is pretty good too. It isn't perfect, but see it at noon on a Sunday now that the Steelers' season is over.

    I'm still a Shyamalan defender.
I've seen nine of his movies and I've got a 5-4 ratio in movies I've liked vs. disliked.
And three of the ones I've liked - 'The Sixth Sense,' 'Unbreakable' and 'Signs' - I thought were very enjoyable. I've got a strong thumbs-up on those three.
'The Village' and 'Devil' are good in the sense that I thought they were better than your average movie.

I'm in no rush to see 'Split.' We'll probably watch it when we can watch it at home.
I'm not getting a babysitter and paying to see it in the theater.

Just as a footnote, although 'The Happening' was dumb, there were a couple of shots and images that were really arresting and memorable in that movie.
'Lady in the Water,' 'After Earth' and 'The Visit' all stunk on ice.

My bad. I didn't read the post you were quoting.

I liked Unbreakable and The Sixth Sense, but nothing else that he has done. I'm guessing I will wait for Redbox, Netflix or cable for this one, just because I already know too much about it.
