I support her for the reasons spelled out in Jeb! Bush's USA Today op-ed.

I support more school choice, and think a billionaire like DeVos won't give a shit about all the arrows that come her way.

But, Jeb! didn't talk about her plans to "put religion back in schools" or "take funding away from public schools" in a way that didn't spend it elsewhere on education at need kids, so maybe he and I missed something.

Where are these plans of hers that you mentioned? I'd like to learn more about them. They sound ominous.

While the vast majority of K-12 spending is done by state and local governments, the bulging layers of bureaucracy that administer education policy are the direct result of federal overreach into our education system. As a result, too many education dollars are wasted on bureaucrats and administrators instead of being driven down into the classroom where they could make a bigger impact on learning.

Instead of defending and increasing Washington’s power, Betsy will cut federal red tape and be a passionate advocate for state and local control of schools. More importantly, she will empower parents with greater choices and a stronger voice over their children’s education. In the two decades that I have been actively involved in education reform, I have worked side-by-side with Betsy to promote school choice and put the interests of students first. I know her commitment to children, especially at-risk kids, is genuine and deep.

So, lots of vague generalities and Bush's endorsement. Well, at least you offered something other than an attack on others, so that is a positive step.

So, you like her because you believe she will get rid of educators, without really caring how she plans to identify the administrators who will be cast aside. That makes sense, and it certainly fits in with your own past statements regarding education, which often center around wanting to see teachers or administrators fired without any concern for how the people selected for pink slips are chosen.

Voucher programs take money away from public schools and she has been a strong proponent of them. If you need me to educate you on her record, perhaps you should do some research before you come out in support of DeVos.

I like the last line about her commitment to at-risk kids. Is that like her concern for special needs students, which is so important to her that she doesn't even understand the IDEA?

All snark aside, you have a legitimate reason to defend her. I think you are intentionally ignoring her positions that you know are unpopular, but you still made a case. Why not just do that the first time?

Also, none of this changes the fact that she demonstrated ignorance of key concepts related to the job during the hearing.

I'm sure books could be written about it. At the end, you have heavy lobbying by extremely wealthy and powerful people in efforts to have private businesses subsidized by tax dollars.
