    I always thought MTM could have been one of the all-time great actresses, but she was pigeonholed early as a supporting player after the DVD show, then hit it big with her own show and got pigeonholed again as the plucky single career woman, and made enough money she didn't need feature-film roles any more.

    In the '50s show "Richard Diamond," starring David Janssen as a private eye, she played his receptionists. All you ever see on camera are her legs.

    Mary Richards was the prototype for every shitty Kate Hudson or Jennifer Aniston movie that has bothered us in the last 15 years.

    If only those two were 10 percent as interesting as MTM's character.
