But Jewish refugees, fleeing the Nazis, even those who were men of fighting age, were all potential victims of the Nazis, and were also unlikely to turn on America, if accepted as refugees.

Sunni Muslim men, of fighting age, are largely fleeing Islamic rule for economic benefit, and we've already had multiple examples of terrorists using the cover of refugee status to emigrate to the west to commit acts of terror.

Christians and Yazidis are being slaughtered by Islamic groups. If we're talking about bringing them in as refugees, that's something very different, and much more analogous to the situation that Jewish refugees in the '30's were in.

As for Shia vs. Sunni, yes, either can be "the bad guy".

Sunni consider Shia to be apostates. A Shia Muslim has avery reason to fear living under Sunni Islamic rule.

Religious persecution has long been a valid reason to seek refugee status.

Confirming the applicant's religious affiliation has long been part of the process to approve such an application.

Coincidentally, economic hardship is not a valid reason to seek refugee status.

You say "secure the border" like it's necessary or something for a democracy to be behind walls.

A border is one of the few things that defines a nation.

I'm not sure why having a secure border is an issue.

Here's a hint. The lie about getting Mexico to pay for it didn't help matters any, nor has the transparent attempt to make it look like he is going to make that happen even though we all know anything that is built will be paid for by American citizens.

"The wall," as a campaign tactic, was presented in a way in which to maximize the support of racist assholes. This was not and is not a sober call for border security.

    As a president, he's a disgrace.

Still love to have a beer with the guy, though.

It's not. The issue is wasting billions and billions in taxpayer dollars on a stupid unnecessary wall that will never get finished and end up as little more than the world's longest ugly eyesore--just to satiate our delusional president's gargantuan ego.

There are better ways of maintaining border security.

Sure. Every nation has a border. Generally the repressive ones have walls on them.

    The Wall to Nowhere.

It's a stupid idea that will do little to nothing when it comes to illegal immigration. Republicans who pass legislation to fund this boondoggle with taxpayer money are complete hypocrites.

You can say that with the benefit of hindsight. But back then, people very much like yourself thought differently.

Anne Frank and her family were also denied entry as refugees to the U.S.
