    First time I recall taking notice of John Hurt was when he played Caligula in "I, Claudius," a repulsive role in which he was absolutely riveting.

    Then he did a complete 180 as a downtrodden lifer in the Turkish prison in "Midnight Express."

    Truly, one of the great actors of our time.
