--- Syria was never ours to turn over to anybody. Its president invited Russia. When allies say, "USA, we need your help," we help. Syria said, "Russia, we need your help,'' and they helped. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE??????

--- Who is worse off with Crimea a part of Russia? If the answer is not "the people of Crimea'' (and it is not), then the answer does not matter.

--- Russia does not "occupy" Eastern Ukraine any more than we "occupy" all the places in Europe and the Middle East where we have sent military aid (not to mention engineering regime change). We sure as hell didn't mind Russia "occupying" Afghanistan with us when they were helping us in the weeks and months after 9/11, did we?

Ukraine is a sharply divided country of irreconcilable differences that desperately needs a divorce. We won't grant one, of course, and then bitch and moan when the bullets fly and the oppressed part of the country asks its eastern border for help.

There was a great line from a story I read recently: "We live in a world where western powers engage in wars they cannot win whilst Russia refrains from entering a war which she could win easily and rapidly."

The story says they haven't been downgraded? Read this: "The new memo said that the intelligence director and the Joint Chiefs chairman would attend the “principals meetings” — the meeting of cabinet-level officials — only when “issues pertaining to their responsibilities and expertise are to be discussed.”
So, no, the NYT story does not say what Morning Joe and Other Trumpists say it does.

Quebec is easily the most racist province in Canada.

Lots of ignorant Quebecoise who see anything other than Pure Lain as racially inferior. Long history of raging anti-semitism too.

When the last referendum on sovereignty was lost the leader of the movement blamed immigrants, Anglophones and Jews.

There was a political issue made of Niqabs as well as a recent provincial dialogue on how accomodating society should be.

It's a really odd dynamic there.

Sounds like a great place for Trumpists if the US ever reclaims the ideals it purports to espouse.

If they're big on anti-semitism and Islamophobia, maybe they'll petition to be admitted to Dumpf's Great New America.

If the Democratic Party had sense enough to come in out if the rain, it should mail DVDs of that film out to every mailbox in swing districts.
