I seriously can't believe I just heard a grown-ass man representing the freakin' POTUS say "Hey, you never know! That kindergartener might be a terrorist!"

 

And we wonder why readership is down.

 

I just get so tired with the hot takes that a) escapism through sports is something that should be combatted or shamed; and b) you should appreciate being lectured about "real life" in a sports story.

 

Political tweets by reporters might be .00001 percent of why newspaper readership has declined.

 

Unless it's because of someone's religious belief or country of origin. In that case, it would be right to always assume that they pose a threat.

 

I don't know if it's shown in circulation numbers, Inky, but I bet there are a lot of sports fans who grit their teeth when they see it coming.

 

There are two leaders in the clubhouse for most emails I ever received about a column, and there is no close third:

1. A column about two black high school quarterbacks facing off the week after Rush Limbaugh's comments about Donovan McNabb. You can blame this one on living in "the bubble." It didn't occur to me that anyone thought Rush was anything but a blowhard idiot.

2. A sports column that contained a snarky line about Sarah Palin being stupid.

 

Nah, I saw her on all the morning shows yesterday.
