Why would you have faith in WWE right now? They've spent a year pushing Roman Reigns, had Rollins come back as a heel, push Lesnar and Goldberg huge even though they're part-timers, had Orton win the Rumble, etc.

One of the things that makes reading about wrestling history more fun. CBS Sports wrote a story about the "Lost Royal Rumble," which, technically was the real first rumble (although on the Kayfabe Memories site, there is a claim that there was some sort of early rumble at a random show in New England in the mid-70s).

The "Lost Royal Rumble" was in St. Louis a few months before the recognized original, at a house show attended by less than 2,000 people. Apparently, Vince hated Patterson's idea, but gave the go-ahead for the one show, with the winner to receive a title shot against Hogan at next month's house show (sound familiar?). However, Patterson wasn't there that night to run it, and it got a poor reaction from the crowd (and wasn't helped by the ring announcer's major botch, as you'll see). It wasn't until Vince and Pat were meeting with Dick Ebersol, and Vince jokingly told Pat to give his idea, which he hated, to him, that the Rumble as we know it came into being.

The Lost Royal Rumble and how a signature WWE event survived despite early failure

The other cool part is they interviewed a few of the wrestlers who, were in it, and none of them remembered it because to them it was just another house show. The winner was quite amused to find out he was the actual first winner of what should be known as the first Royal Rumble.

In all seriousness is that actually Dustin Runnals in the gold paint in those KFC commercials or does it just sound suspiciously like him?

The WWE title replica is $100 off, which is a lot for a belt sale. I hope this doesn't mean we're about to get a blue leather strap on it. The E shop did that to the tag team penny belts before they went red/silver. Ugh.

I have a feeling that's exactly what it means.

Maybe Cena's bringing back the spinner as part of his half-heel personality.

And speaking of great 198os NWA tag teams, your next inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame:

Rock ’n’ Roll Express to enter WWE Hall of Fame

Found it funny that the first paragraph said the news was first reported by CBSSports.com. So, WWE is getting scooped on its own Hall of Fame inductees?

Nah, they leak it to the outlets. They've been doing it for a different news outlet for each announcement for the last couple of years. They do it to get some mainstream coverage.

Quite a difference from 30 years ago, when they hated having anyone cover them or have any magazine do a story on them.

Yeah, I agree. With a "What a rush!" at the end.

Come to think of it, the Wall Street Journal should have had Paul Ellering do a commercial, with Hawk and Animal come in at the end. Something like as the Warriors are beating up,some guys in the ring, Ellering says how when he's not guiding two monsters, he gets all the news tips and business info from the WSJ.

    Talk about a missed opportunity.
