    She's Hideki Irabu?

Guy, one of the best lines I ever heard in a press box was at Game 3 of the 1999 ALCS when Pedro pitched for the Sox and Clemens got shelled in short order. Irabu came in to do long relief and had nothing. Took several innings worth of beating and after one extra base hit Harvey Araton dubbed him "The Sacrificial Toad."

So what happens to Czarniak? She had a kid in November...and is now off the 6 at ESPN? That sucks.

I was going to look that up, but I decided it didn't matter. I thought she was OK at times, but when she got loud, I immediately changed the channel to keep paint from peeling off the walls.

This endeavor will probably be like most of what ESPN has done lately -- a train wreck, but they'll keep denying it and pretending otherwise.

Is it possible this is just an extension of The Undefeated without calling it such?

This reminds me of OOP putting Steelers injury news on two different threads. Multiple times.

Mike is a very nice guy. But one of the signs to me that sports journalism was changing and leaving me behind was when he was at the Globe and we were both covering an indoor track meet in Boston. Mike told me he had been assigned to the world track and field championships that summer in Paris, but was bummed out because it meant he'd miss two weeks of training camp in Foxboro. What? August in Paris, August with Belichick, and you prefer the latter? I was stunned, but then I realized he was just responding to career incentives in the 21st century.

It's been a pretty seamless first half hour.

It was a good first splash.

Both of them remind me of people I've worked and talked nonstop sports with.
