Top Al-Qaida Leader Taunts Trump After
Escaping Capture in Botched Yemen Raid

The details of the botched Special Forces raid in Yemen continue to trickle after the White House deemed the mission that resulted in the death of a Navy SEAL and multiple civilians "a successful operation by all standards." On Monday, NBC News reported that the real mission of Trump’s first covert counterterrorism operation was to capture or kill Qassim al-Rimi, the head of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.

The raid killed 14 al-Qaida operatives and, according to administration officials, yielded important intelligence, but it did not lead to the capture of al-Rimi, who is considered one of the most dangerous terrorists in the world. It is not known if al-Rimi was at the camp and managed to escape capture or whether he was possible tipped off to the possible raid. In apparent response to the raid, over the weekend, al-Rimi released an audio recording that’s believed to be authentic taunting Donald Trump. "The White House's new fool has received a painful blow at your hands in his first outing on your land,” he said in the recorded message to his followers.

From Dan Rather's "News and Guts" Facebook site ...

Just beginning week three of the Trump administration when we came across this jaw-dropping editorial via the German newsmagazine DER SPIEGEL. The writer believes Germany must take action now and lead other European nations, as well as countries around the world, in a unified alliance against President Trump. Wow.

    Here is a quote:
"It is literally painful to write this sentence, but the president of the United States is a pathological liar. The president of the U.S. is a racist (it also hurts to write this). He is attempting a coup from the top; he wants to establish an illiberal democracy, or worse; he wants to undermine the balance of power. He fired an acting attorney general who held a differing opinion from his own and accused her of "betrayal." This is the vocabulary used by Nero, the emperor and destroyer of Rome. It is the way tyrants think."

Charlottesville? (Are there others?) It's really a beautiful spot with good wine. Dave Matthews's winery is less than a mile away if you get there and decide you want to go somewhere less ethically fraught (but equally lame).
