Meanwhile, our good friend Mitch is at it again, by stopping Warren from reading a letter ripping on Sessions ... written by Coretta Scott King.

Senate bars Elizabeth Warren from questioning AG nominee

The Republican Party. So eager to go to war, yet afraid to have a letter read on the Senate floor by the widow of one of the nation's greatest civil rights activists.

Because they are used to siphon money away from public schools to pay for private education, which often means religious education. Public money should not be used to pay for religious education. That is where the separation of church and state comes into the equation.

This has been done a gazillion times, but it would go to the non-religious requirements that every school has. Why should religious parents pay double, for schooling? The money it's siphoning is a fraction of the money I'm paying in my property taxes.

Cousins just HAD to put their kids in Prestonwood, so they moved to Plano - from Highland Park.

Do you take it to the next step - why should childless couples pay anything at all?

You're more squeamish about this than the law requires. See Zelman v. Simmons-Harris ...

    No, everyone should pay.

One, see Inky's post. He nailed it.

You don't have to pay double for schooling. You can send your child to public school and teach them about religion at home or at your chosen house of worship. The idea that they will only use the funding for non-religious requirements is laughable. The money goes into the budget, regardless of how it is spent. Your argument is just moving money around in the same pot.

You want the advantages of a private school for your kid? Great. Pay for it.

Pretty stupid by Tippy the Turtle McConnell. This will bring 20 times the attention it would have gotten otherwise.

Won't make a difference. But it's not a great move to tell a female Senator to sit down and shut up. Especially when reading a letter from Coretta Scott King.

Kind of like the argument that government support of Planned Parenthood doesn't go toward abortions.

You pay for the right to public education. You want more than that? You pay for it. Anything else is public money paying for religious education, which is a violation of the separation of church and state and it absolutely damages public education.

Guy, I know you are a Yankees fan. Do you live in New York? Even if you don't, do some research on the East Ramapo School District in the suburbs of NYC. No voucher program, but a district that has been decimated by people who want a religious education for their children finding a way to gut a public school district.

Planned Parenthood isn't violating the separation of church and state, but there is a connection. Both issues are driven by people on your side trying to use the government and public money to push their religious beliefs.

Government support of Planned Parenthood does go toward abortions, but also a hell of a lot more.
