Tying a tie too long makes someone look shorter, I think, which you would think Trump doesn't like. But it also draws all eyes down to your twig and berries, which I imagine he does like. I like a tie to the top of the buckle myself.

Should go halfway down the buckle, though. You want a little overlap.*

I don't agree. I believe that the best look is for it to come about a 1/2 inch to an inch short of your belt buckle when you're standing straight up. Should be a sliver of shirt visible under the point of the tie. No overlap. Everything confined to its own place.

No. Anything short of the buckle looks nerdish. Like schoolboy fail.

Not a big fan of ties. I like the Mike Brey look. Best dressed college coach.

I agree with @Riptide ... corner of the tie should be, ideally, just over part of the belt buckle.

Ties shouldn't be worn at all unless they're rackishly loose and your top bottom is undone.

In that case, you might try flowers ...

If you put in extra miles on the treadmill and have a washboard stomach it is acceptable to have the corner of the tie fall a few inches shy of the belt buckle.

A few inches? Are you talking about a long bow tie?
