Back when Ed was on TV I said I'd watch Tom Cavanagh in anything. I guess I was wrong.

You mock, but this is where we are going. TV ratings are dropping because of the cord-cutting, and how much your "skits" are downloaded/streamed is very relevant to ad salespeople

    "You mock, but"

It's still worth mocking, even if it is where we're going.

If somebody shared a Jamelle and Mike sketch with me, I would immediately unfriend them

I'll admit to being part of the problem. I haven't watched an episode of SNL or Last Week Tonight or the Late Show in probably years. But I've watched plenty of their "shareable" bits on YouTube or Hulu.

It is just a further extension of the DVR, letting people watch when they want to. Now, you can watch when you want to and what parts you want to.

EDIT: I'm not comfortable with the phrase "shareable bits" either.

It ain't mocking, bubba. I was at the forefront of the Ben Franklin Project, which was going to change the world, and all the experimental journalism stuffs that followed till I spit myself out of the biz. It's just funny to read the latest trend of "shareable moments" as if it's the great savior. There will be another thing and another thing and ... another thing.

Watch what you want and when you want? What an awful thing! You must be a fucking millennial.

Here's why this show won't work.

    Michael Smith has no charisma.

He's not funny, not a "Type A" male, which you need for good television. On top of this, he has trouble speaking, a slight impediment and takes a while to form words.

The evil, cynical TV guy in me thinks this is ESPN betting that it will fail. They get rid of Czarnik - who was very good - and try a new format. If the ratings tank, they'll blow this up and try something new at 6 pm ET that isn't the preview/sports news of the day formula ESPN has been doing for decades.

On top of this, good luck getting any help from the armies of anchors and producers in Bristol stuck on the less prominent shifts to go out of their way to help two people who sorta just fell into the job.... and watched as ESPN has forced them on everybody, every platform.

Am I wrong, or are they trying to make an ESPN "Today Show"?

Agree. The fact that Smith and Hill are on at 6 p.m. tells me that the execs, privately, don't think it's a marquee slot. If they thought it was, they could have thrown the kitchen sink at it.
