I've always been surprised ESPN, as the 6 p.m. SportsCenter has waned, hasn't tried starting live sports at 6 p.m. As the population ages, they'll appreciate football games starting earlier. During college basketball season they could get a triple or quadruple header into the schedule. I don't think it would work very well for the NBA or NFL, but I could see them jumping straight from PTI to live sports.

Man, once Kornheiser and Wilbon hang it up, they really won't have anything after 4 p.m. to draw viewers, will they?

I will agree that live sports may the avenue at 6 pm ET.
Before web and phones, that was the sportscast when the news of the day - injuries, previews. Now everyone knows.

ESPN doesn't need another hour or two people yelling at each other.

How many people watch a 6:00 pm sportscenter?

Living on the west coast, I know I have literally never watched a 3:00 PM sportscenter in my life.

At 6, I'm either driving home or just walking in and figuring out dinner for the young'uns. TV's not in the cards and certainly not Sportscenter. Either they'll be rehashing the news of the day, which I've probably already been reading about or heard on the drive, or previewing the night's games, which I don't need. If it's just a talking-heads yakfest, I can't pay attention. It's just a no-man's land for me. If I was still working an evening sports desk or going to happy hours after work, maybe I'd feel differently.

My household is like that, too.

The main TV belongs to my wife and son until 7. Then, it's mine. 5-7 is actually the time I try to unplug as much as I can.

Starting a weeknight game before 7 pm local time is a great way to kill your live gate.

Live gate is so much less important to the schools and the pros than ratings numbers. Not that I think 6 p.m. starts are a great idea.

When the Pac 12 Network says "bark", the 12 schools ask, "Chow or Husky"?
I've seen 6:30 weeknight starts in Westwood. You couldn't pay me $100 to drive into Westwood at that hour, and I work 5 miles away.

Seems like I'm seeing a lot of 6:30 SEC hoops games in the TV listings these days.

Why do ESPN execs think that putting two more self-important, whiny, wannabe social justice blowhards on a set together to chat is a good idea? Who in their right mind would want to tune into this garbage? I figured maybe it couldn't be as bad as I thought so I watched it for a few minutes the other day when Durant made his return to OKC. They had an interview with Durant's mother!!! Click. These two attempt to be hip and think they are clever and funny and in reality they are just two more loudmouth morons on a network that seems to have lost its way.

Which are 5:30 games here (although I think they've stuck to EST arenas for those). Lots of empty seats too. Outside of 12-20 schools it is turning into a studio sport.

You don't think it's cool when Jemele gets Mike to dance to It Takes Two?
