It's early days yet, but maybe the people of Alabama got lucky. Governor Boobgrabber gave Luther Strange Jeff Session's Senate seat in an effort to prevent further investigation of his conduct. The newly appointed AG, Steve Marshall, said that he did not speak with Gov. Bentley about the investigation before taking the job, and 90% of the state rolled their eyes and thought "Yeah, riiiight".

Once he got in, AG Marshall promptly announced that he was recusing himself from the investigation so that there was no question of his being bought off by his appointment. He then appointed a Special Prosecutor.

"Marshall has appointed former Montgomery County District Attorney Ellen Brooks as the supernumerary district attorney leading the investigation.

“Ellen Brooks has a long and distinguished legal background, including 35 years in the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office where she served as District Attorney from 1993 to 2014,” Marshall said in a statement today. “Ellen is an experienced prosecutor handling a variety of matters throughout her career, and I am confident she will ensure that all the facts are pursued in this investigation.”

Brooks, who also served a year as a deputy attorney general in 1991, retired from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office in 2014 after serving as the DA for 21 years. For two years, she also served as the director of the district attorney’s office’s white collar crimes unit.

Marshall contacted Brooks and asked her if she was willing to serve as the supernumerary prosecutor. She said yes."

Looks promising. Maybe Bentley won't get out of office before the hammer drops after all. There has been a Grand Jury looking at doings around the Gov.'s office as well. Hope springs eternal..

This is an outstanding story just as a story. Other localities local politics, however, are always hard to follow.

I hadn't thought about that, but you're right. He does that forced smile, but he doesn't audibly laugh. It is very odd. Maybe he did when he made the joke about how only Jews should be handling his money.

He made jokes about his wife, but not himself.

    Discernment.

It's a swing district. In theory he could lose.

Wall Street Journal push alert says intelligence community is keeping information from Trump for fear of it being compromised. (Story's paywalled, so I can't post a link.) If true, is there precedent for this? And, if true, can he effectively govern if his intelligence agencies don't trust him?

Actually, that's probably true. But we shouldn't conduct an experiment to show you're right.
