Heard a feature on NPR this morning re this. Seems that it is not uncommon for a new president to want to step away from the pressure of the White House for a bit, back to the comfortable routine of a campaign rally sort of atmosphere. Clinton did it, GWB as well.

I'm good with that part. It's the effect on any organization with a 501c3 - say Planned Parenthood. If they speak out through their usual lobbying arm they can be hit with using the PAC to attack a candidate instead of being issue oriented lobbying. Clever way to gag them... smarmy and unethical, but that's not a change.

What DeVos said is more or less true. Administrators at schools run the show. Teachers have to toe a lot of lines. Their biggest aim is not to suck and not to get in trouble.

I do not like DeVos. At all. I don't embrace her worldview of exceptionalism where superstar kids - and whatever methods it takes to make them superstars - reflects education at its best. It doesn't. It never will.

But what she said about teachers? It's true. They're not empowered.

I can't stand Trump, but that syphilis story seems... Not cool?

NYT headline: Republican health proposal would redirect money from poor to rich. #classwarfare

The Kremlin has/had no great expectations from Trump. They know how our system works and the inertia against anything changing.

They simply hitched their wagon to the devil they didn't know, because the devil they know (Clinton) was a non-starter anyway. It's like being given your choice of execution method, so you grudgingly pick the one where the apparatus is more likely to fail. What do you have to lose?
