Toss-up between some place on Sixth Street in Austin whose name I can't remember (including killer margaritas, which is why I can't remember the name) and a place on the River Walk in San Antonio that had the best shrimp fajitas I've ever had. Also, La Brisa on Highway 146 between Kemah and Texas City, outside of Houston, is pretty darn good.

Cali people help me here but in terms of breakfast I recall a tiny little diner joint on Ocean Ave. south of the pier in Santa Monica where the huevos rancheros were amazing.

Taco truck in Parlier. No name.
Also, El Toro taqueria and carniceria in Santa Ana.
Taco stand operating out of an abandoned house in North Las Vegas. No name. That was 2008. It might not be there anymore.

There was a fly-ridden dump in Midway New Mexico -- between Roswell and Dexter -- that made some of the best tacos ya ever ate.

The best places for Mexican food are exactly like the best alcohol. Not a lick of English on the label.

Our new office is next door to a Mexican place and this town of 8,000 has two good ones, each with their own highlights. Both are certainly better than the first attempt some guys made at a Mexican place in this town. They were afraid there wasn't going to be enough of a crowd for Mexican so they also served Italian. They did neither well.

Here in a town of 35,000 people, there are somewhere around 15 Mexican restaurants. (Not counting the Taco Bell, because that's neither Mexican or Food.)

Casa Martin fits your description, re: location. Never been there. But I can name 10 Mexican restaurants in Santa Monica that are all outstanding, led by Gilbert's on 26th and Pico (family style, sit-down restaurant) and Campos (several locations in addition to the original on 20th and Pico. Counter order). Also Casa Escobar and El Cholo on Wilshire and Lares on Pico. Don't forget the iconic Tito's Tacos in Culver City.

When talking about Mexican food in Chicago, you have to mention Skip Bayless' brother, Rick. One of his restaurants has a Michelin star.
