Eugene held that jar of pickles like it was a puppy he rescued from a rain swollen creek.

I'm not sure if Negan is an evil genius or just a moron. This week's episode gave me evidence for both arguments.

I'll be interested to see what happens with Eugene going forward. It would be predictable if he helped Rick from the inside, but the story has gone a while without a traitors-and-consequences storyline from a main to semi-main character in Rick's group.

Yeah. Eugene can go bite a bag of pickles.

I'm curious what evidence you saw from this episode that he is a moron. That he bought Dwight's story? That he thinks Eugene is "totally Negan"?

Despite the over-the-top theatrics of pretty much everything he does, I've always thought Negan knows that to rule in this world he needs just one thing - complete terror. He knows his unpredictability and unrelenting punishments are enough to keep pretty much everyone in line. He doesn't just kill people, he bashes their brains in. And it is never the person who actually commits the crime. He also recognizes when someone is useful and beats them into submission (like he did with Dwight and tried to do with Daryl).

The one thing he has done (or didn't do, rather) that never really lined up for me was letting Coral go back to his dad without a single scratch after the kid killed two of his men. Didn't touch Coral. Didn't punish Rick. That still doesn't make sense to me.

It's possible that I missed something, but I don't see the sense in killing the only doctor you have in the compound. Hell, I wouldn't get the purpose of harming the doctor in any way. (Especially since the doctor was on "trail" for a story that made absolutely no sense). Perhaps he figures he could go borrow a doctor from another camp, but that seemed like an idiotic decision. He has plenty of minions, so I think I'd vet the doctor's story a little more before I punished the guy who has a somewhat valuable job.

I can understand the Eugene rationale.

I wondered too. I assumed Negan was a little taken by Eugene's rap and figured he was a suitable substitute for an MD.

I forget if it was on this thread or somewhere else, but one theory I read is that he was planning to take the doctor from the Hilltop for that job.

Yes, he mentioned Dr. Carson during his rant.

Hilltop was stupid for letting the Negans know there was a doctor in the house.

Fucking Carnies, they never tighten the bolts properly! Decent episode with lots of zombie action, maybe even a little too much. But it's fun to see how confident they've become killing the hordes.

Main thing I didn't like was that, after all that, they go to the trash people and it wasn't enough guns, so now we need another episode of them going to find more guns (and it seems obvious where they're going to get them). Makes the episode feel a little like a waste of time. It was enjoyable enough, but that scene stole the momentum of the episode.

Agreed, though really the episode was about Rick and Michonne more than it was about getting guns.

But yes, it does seem like Tara was about to come clean with Rick.
