On charges that the Obama administration tapped Trump Towers
"He believes, and I believe, that he was under surveillance by the federal government and the intelligence agencies while he was the Republican nominee for president. This is a scandal bigger than Watergate. This is the most outrageous breach of law and of morality in American public history. Richard Nixon did not know about the Watergate break-in in advance, but he bore ultimate responsibility. If you look at the statement by (former) President Obama this weekend, he said he didn’t approve eavesdropping on candidate Trump. Notice he didn’t say it didn’t happen, only that he didn’t approve it. Of course, if the Justice Department did ask the FISA Court for permission to conduct surveillance on candidate Trump in June and again in October, it is unlikely they did so without the permission and knowledge of the President. So the question becomes: What did Obama know and when did he know it? As I said, this is a scandal far greater than Watergate, and it may take some time in which the former President and his Secretary of Defense and his CIA Director and his FBI Director are dragged before a grand jury and questioned under oath about what they knew. If I were President Trump, I would fire the FBI Director and within hours have him in front of a grand jury to find out what he knows. This is potentially the greatest scandal in American history."

 

The "look over there! Don't look over here! Look over there!" crowd has control of the executive branch. They are trying, and probably succeeding with their cancerous base, to make the fact that their president's campaign staff is under investigation for selling out the country to an enemy into a scandal for the other side.

 

You're more effective when you're lecturing us about abortion. And that ain't saying much.

 

In the minds of Trump's base, the fact that Obama is an African American who was elected twice means he already betrayed the country just by being President. Once again, Trump IS his base. His hates, his fears, his delusions, they're all theirs as well.

 

Note that FISA surveillance is severely limited and requires information from surveillance to be kept very secret or, if not relevant, deleted. If those limits were exceeded, if Obama officials lied to the court, or if the information was — as it appears to have been — excessively shared within the government, or leaked to outsiders, those are all serious crimes, as First Amendment attorney Robert Barnes notes.

Watergate brought down a presidency, but if the worst suspicions here are borne out, we’re dealing with something worse. Hopefully not, but there’s no way to tell at this point. As The Washington Post has been saying lately, “Democracy dies in darkness.” Let’s shine some light on what the Obama administration was doing during this election.

 

He sucks at that, too, because he uses the rhetoric, but runs in terror when asked to explain the logic.
