The ACC went to Tampa about a decade ago. Can't remember how it did, but SEC draws flies whenever it goes to Florida.

You assume this is for students. In addition to Syracuse, Pitt and BC, don't forget Duke has a ton of alumni in New York and Jersey.

You want to know who has a damn good crowd right now? The Big 12 in Kansas City, and it isn't all Jayhawks fans waiting on the next game either. And I doubt they're going to move it to Houston or Pittsburgh to be more relevant in the biggest TV markets.

Old rich people don't mind going to Florida in the winter, either.

As a KC resident, and attendee of yesterday's dud of a Round 1, I can assure you it's a big deal each year on the social calendar. It reminds me of the Florida-Georgia game weekend in Jacksonville.

Not only is KC a great, cheap party city for all ages, this is THE destination city for young alums of most of the Big 12 outside of Texas, the way Chicago, Atlanta and D.C. are for the Big Ten, SEC and ACC. Every day I encounter alums from ISU (didn't know they existed before moving here), the OK schools, and obviously KU/KState. I can't imagine a major city in which March is as mad, with the Big 12, NAIA national tournament, and Midwestern regionals this year within weeks. And basketball is so huge here year-round with Lawrence 30 minutes from the affluent Kansas-side suburbs and 45 minutes from downtown.

Was going to pose the question last night, them got distracted. If each conference had to pick a permanent site, what would be ideal.

    Big East - NYC, obviously
    Big Ten - Chicago? Indy?
    Big 12 - KC
ACC - I'd say Charlotte maybe.
    Pac 12 - LA?
    SEC - Atlanta

SEC has settled into a groove where Nashville gets it three years out of four, and that seems to work well.

Thought experiment: How would Rick Pitino's career have turned out if he had stayed at Kentucky? He's at least Cal's equal as a coach. I think he would have been Coach K's one true rival - guys like Izzo, Boeheim, Roy Williams are a cut below in terms of career accomplishments. The other guys who were deemed K's rivals are retired or dead.

So, uh, is TCU stealing someone's bid?
