His family lives in Denton. UNT is paying him $600k, which makes him second highest paid in C-USA behind Tim Floyd at UTEP. He'll live in Dallas instead of Jonesboro, Arkansas. That looks like a sensible move to me.

League wise, I'd say that the Belt is better than C-USA, at least for now. UNT hoops have sucked, so I expect that he'll make them better and they'll like him for that.

If he lives in Dallas, he's got a hell of a commute.

I know what you mean -- just playin'.

Cameron Dollar out at Seattle U. A small, private Jesuit school like SU should be in the WCC but (from what I hear) Gonzaga blackballs them and they're stuck in the WAC, the league for Western misfit toys.

The answer is simple. The AD at Indiana does not like to make changes. Kevin Wilson never had a winning record in six seasons and he was only fired because of allegations of player mistreatment. Crean won the regular Big Ten title last year. Other AD's would pull the trigger but not Fred Glass.

I also think that the players and the fans of a successful Big Six conference don't want to play in the NIT. It is like playing in a consolation game. A school like Illinois State which can only rarely go to the tournament will have a different outlook.

I'd expect the Indiana fans to look on an NIT bid as thin soup indeed, bordering on an insult. I'm not sure the NIT would get the ticket sales they hoped for.

You really think the NIT is going to get a better product, let alone more people through the turnstiles by having Indiana and Georgia Tech play at McCamish Pavilion?

Indiana isn't the first blue blood program to end up in the NIT at some point. It is the first to turn down hosting a game without even a pretense of their home court being unavailable.

If it's such an insult, they should have turned the invite down altogether.

I've heard of schools turning down the invite. Never heard of one saying "Sure, we'll play, but send us on the road" unless the circus or a tractor pull or some other event had booked their home venue.

This is a hire that could improve both schools, no matter who Cal hires.

How is it going to improve Cal?

He recruited well on paper, but on the court it was another matter. And they ended up losing what, 7 straight at the end, including the NIT to Bako last night?
