Schedule shows they were 3-4 down the stretch and made the Pac-12 tournament semifinals. Nobody cares about the NIT.

And you think there's some magical coach who is going to do better than that at Cal?

If the reports are true, I'm happy for Mizzou. And happy that Illinois is still left searching, searching, searching for someone to even approximate Bill Self.

Now if Romar could get fired at Washington and Michael Porter Jr. could get out of his LOI and sign with the Tigggers ... well, things would be even better. No matter what, recruiting should be better with Martin in charge.

Rumors are that Illinois is going to offer Tony Bennett $5 million per. Time for Paul Tudor Jones to get out his checkbook.

Good coach, but that's a lot of money.

Rumors of $3m to $3.5m per year for Martin. I have no idea if those rumors are credible.

Good but not exciting hire for Mizzou. Martin's Cal squad this year was terrible on offense so Tiger fans will always be used to this for his first season.

$3.5 million for Martin is insanity. I would hope that Mizzou called Gregg Marshall's agent and offered $5.5 million. He's worth that much more.

On a side note, I keep hearing that Martin, Danny Manning and Lorenzo Romar are excellent recruiters. Are there any non-white basketball coaches who aren't described as excellent recruiters?

Ex, who would qualify as exciting for you? Crean? Drew? Someone else?

I'd say, without one game yet as Mizzou's coach, he's a better hire than all the ones after Norm was run off. (And to think, Alden picked Snyder instead of Self.)

Solid but not exciting. I'm glad that Mizzou didn't go with some MAC flash in the plan. The entry point for the Tigers is excellent for Martin as he comes in. He does check all of the boxes on Mizzou's wish list (especially if he can bring in St. Louis recruits).

I do think they overpaid for Martin's coaching but MU just had a year when it paid peanuts for football and men's basketball staffs.

Crean does nothing for me. I do like Scott Drew.

Yes, getting STL talent to Columbia is pretty much essential. And with his B1G roots, maybe he can get some Chicago talent, too.

They need to bring back Dr. Detroit, Rich Daly, the godfather of the Detroit to Columbia turnpike.

That oily motherfucker is not welcome in CoMo. A sleazy motherfucker all the way around, and an asshole to deal with.

There is plenty of talent in Missouri. Since 2000 they have lost (among many others) David Lee, Bradley Beal, Otto Porter and the Hansbrough brothers.

For where Mizzou is right now, Martin is a home run. And $3-3.5M is the going rate.

The amusing part is that all of those guys were agriculture majors. Because, you know, Doug Smith and Lee Coward were farmers as children. In Detroit.
