They tried. They cut the shot clock to 30. Didn't matter.
And who else is in Bennett's stylistic ilk? They're the slowest team in the land by KenPom.

Probably no one, but just in case.

The best way to do it would be for somebody in the B1G to bust out of the Bennett/Bo Ryan/Painter/Izzo sludgeball mode, recruit a bunch of speedsters, and go balls out with a run and gun offensive style and lay a few 105-75 ass whoopings on the sludgeballers.

Beilein is kind of doing it at Michigan but hasn't strung two really good seasons back to back yet. And the problem is when he has an "off season," he gets beat by the sludgeballers, so he can't really argue he knows a "better way to play." Plus he gets ragged by all the critics for getting beat on the boards, etc etc. Any time a run and gun team shoots 20% from 3p land and loses 68-54 to a sludgeball team, all the fundamental sticklers are screaming, "see, we told you so."

You'd think some of the middle-lower level teams in leagues like the B1G would try it, like Rutgers, Nebraska, Penn State (and Illinois).

John Chaney and Tubby Smith are the first to come to mind.

No joke, if you really watched Virginia last season that was one of the five most entertaining teams in the country. The effort level was unreal on both ends of the court. There were fewer possessions than most teams, yes, but constant and precise movement on offense. They were patient, but nothing slow about it in terms of movement.

This year, the Cavs have very inconsistent shooting and that makes it ugly at times, but when the talent is there Bennett's system -- offense and defense -- is a thing of beauty.

Trent Johnson, Sidney Lowe, Eddie Jordan.

Manning has upgraded the talent at Wake, but wasn't really considered a premier recruiter when he was an assistant. His rep was coaching big men.

Yeah, quality team defense and gut-busting effort sucks. Who wants to watch that shit? The AAU style is so much better.

    Here's the thing.
Cream tried.....i mean really tried to make every game 101-93......but the pompous ass still tried doing it after losing OG, and everyone else said "Piss on it......we're not busting our tail for 16-15."
    Good Riddance.

I can imagine Starman throwing shoes at the TV as Princeton was back-dooring UCLA to death in 1996.

Fouls and bricks suck, too. Virginia excels at those this season.

Well, every system looks great when you have the right people to run it.

I remember when I took my first forays into basketball coaching, some 35 years ago, and I checked out a library book on "Basic Basketball Coaching Techniques." It had a capsule breakdown of different offenses, and I started to notice the frequent phrase, "This system works well with tall, fast players."

And I said, "Well, no shit. EVERY system works well with tall, fast players."
