Where have all the Bob Seger albums gone?

And "Makin' Thunderbirds" kicks all kinds of ass.

I really love "Roll Me Away," but it's basically a knockoff of "Thunder Road" (down to Roy Bittan on piano). Seger was trying to be a Midwestern Springsteen (as Mellencamp a year or so later).

When Seger teamed up with -- or tried to emulate -- people like Springsteen and the Eagles, he lost some of his individuality, as witness the Eaglish-ness of a lot of his later stuff.

Man I don't know. I like both, but Thunder Road just feels like a song. Roll Me Away, I can feel myself shivering on a bike as it charts a course through the open countryside hugging the Canadian border, even though I've never been to that part of the country.

"You'll Accomp'ny Me." We were looking for "You'll Accomp'ny Me."

    Thunder Road is overrated.

    But Backstreets may be underrated.

I certainly don't get Springsteen to the extent that working man's America gets Springsteen.

"Long Twin Silver Line" is one of my Seeger favorites.

And where exactly are you when you stop 12 hours out of Mackinaw City?

Somewhere in the Dakotas, somewhere around Montreal or in Nashville.

"Roll Me Away," although I like it, shows that Seger doesn't have the eye for detail that Springsteen does.

Hell, Seger owns houses in northern Michigan; he could write a song about actually being IN Mackinaw City, not 12 hours away.

"Twelve hours out of Mackinaw City," what the hell is that? Twelve hours out of New York City is downtown Chicago.

It was basically just sloppy name-checking; Seger was trying to establish his Michigan credentials a-la Springsteen and his Asbury Park/Jersey Shore references.
